The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo is an overgrown armakillo found in Uzumaki Cave. It is the second boss of Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus.

Overview

The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo is initially locked behind a large door in Uzumaki Cave. This door can be accessed after finding and returning all 4 of Shimeji's Armapillos, after which he will give you the Shita Key. When defeated, the Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo drops the Eye of the Beast to be used in a tea that grants the ability to dash.

Appearance

The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo is a vastly overgrown Armakillo, approximately four times the size it would normally be. Unlike the crimson crests of the smaller Armakillos, the Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo has a larger golden crest with more ornate horns that spike off at three points at the ends.

Attacks and Phases

The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo has three attacks. Throughout the fight, small boulders will fall from the ceiling; these deal damage and can be hit back towards the Armakillo using the Bamboo Bat for a small amount of damage.

Ground Roll

The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo will roll towards Bō at high speeds, impervious to all damage. It will keep moving until it strikes a wall, after which it will flip over, becoming briefly vulnerable.

Wall Roll

The Particularly Unmanageable Armakillo will curl up and begin spinning in place at extremely high speeds before rolling along the walls and ceiling in a circular motion, dealing damage on contact. After making about two and a half full rotations, it will stop and begin a bounce roll attack.

Bounce Roll

The bounce roll attack has two variations. The second variation is only used after the Particularly Large Armakillo has 50% of its health or less remaining.

  • The first bounce roll will have the Particularly Large Armakillo bounce in place from the floor to the ceiling, dealing damage on contact. The force of this bouncing will shake the arena, causing the small falling boulders to rain down at a faster rate until the attack ends and the Armakillo flips over, becoming vulnerable.
  • The second bounce roll will have the Particularly Large Armakillo instead bounce all over the arena, ricocheting off of the floor, walls, and ceiling. This is significantly more dangerous than the first bounce roll, as the movements of the Armakillo are very erratic and hard to predict.

Tips and Tactics

The Particularly Large Armakillo is a notable step up in difficulty from the first boss, Kiri Kiri Bozu, and can be far harder to hit due to its high speed and the amount of time it is invulnerable for. However, there are many strategies that can make the boss far easier.

  • The Particularly Large Armakillo will always become vulnerable after the ground roll and bounce roll attacks, giving a perfect window to strike.
  • The two mushrooms on the floor can be pogo'd off of to gain air height. The preemptive spin before the wall roll gives Bō plently of time to use these mushrooms to bounce out of harm's way.
  • Batting the falling boulders with the Bamboo Bat will damage the Armakillo even while it is rolling, giving Bō an opportunity to deal damage even when it is not exposed.
  • During the second bounce roll, keep an eye on where the Armakillo is bouncing and always be on the move. The speed of the bounce can make it easy for it to close large distances fast and quickly crash into Bō.

Trivia

  • The original sprite of the Particularly Large Armakillo did not have the golden crest, instead sharing the crimson one that is found on normal Armakillos.
  • The name of the boss comes from the armakillo enemy, which was a proposed name by an alpha tester in the Discord server.
